History

The idea of establishing a business incubator focused on the IT/software field was firstly brought up in 1999, as an intervention measure proposed by one of the working groups involved in the elaboration process of the Strategic Concept for the Economic and Social Development of the Timişoara area.

This measure was shortlisted in 2001 as a project proposal for the GTZ’s (German Society for Technical Cooperation) assistance in the process of implementation.
 

The concept was implemented and financed by a local consortium of public institutions: ‘Politehnica’ University of Timişoara, Timişoara City Hall, Timişoara City Council and Timiş County Council, with the financial support and the know-how provided by GTZ.

The Incubator was promoted to students and graduates in the fields of computer science, electronics and informatics, in the universities of Timişoara. During the first half of the year 2004, training sessions in business planning were held for the interested target groups.

Between February and April 2004, the future location of the Incubator – Republicii Avenue no. 9, 3rd floor – was revamped according to its new purpose. The Incubator was officially inaugurated in May 2004. During the same month, an initial panel of promising companies were evaluated and admitted for incubation, starting with July 1st 2004.
